Why so Serious about Trivia? Isn't writing quiz questions easy?
Anyone can write flat, uninspired questions - but writing trivia that is not only well-researched and validated, but also captures the unique style and character of your audience takes skill and experience.
Our team of "Questioneers" has years of experience creating thrilling, engaging trivia for a wide variety of brands and audiences, from Sci-Fi geeks to gossip-loving celeb fans.
The Serious Trivia database is created using our sophisticated in-house software and is based on these principles:
Quality Research - Our team uses TWO reliable sources of data for every question. If we can only find rough or inaccurate sources, we don't write the question. This is central to our philosophy; players must be able to trust the game.
Clear Language - Serious Trivia's trivia creation tools include built-in error checking, but the team is still required to maintain the highest standards of spelling and grammar. Without clear language, a question can easily be misunderstood - in a timed Serious Trivia game, any second the player spends making sense of confusing syntax is a second wasted.
Appropriate Style - The quality of the whole game experience rests on the quality of the question. We draw players deeper into the game experience by not only matching the trivia content to their interests, but the style too. Questions for a celeb-gossip brand can be cheeky and use slang in a way that classical music trivia cannot!
Validation - Every question is validated by an even more experienced Team Leader before it goes live. Trivia can be adjusted, corrected or deleted entirely, and this process both provides valuable feedback to keep the team improving, and ensures that the players only see our very best work.
Variable difficulty - In addition to crafting individual high-quality questions, care is taken to balance the overall difficulty of a subject. Though the majority of questions will be of average difficulty, there will also be easier questions to encourage weaker players to develop, and harder questions to test even the best.
Initially, questions are given a difficulty value out of 10, but (and here's the really clever part!) the game engine automatically processes the answers players give, and adjusts the difficulty dynamically, after a question has been written, depending on how many times it is answered correctly or incorrectly.
Refreshing and Growth - Once a trivia subject goes live, our team regularly updates and refines the database, ensuring the game stays fresh for even experienced players - for football, we deliver questions on games played only the previous week, and for movies and music we stay up to date with the latest releases.
Serious Trivia's Question Creation team and processes continue to evolve, and we're always looking for better sources of research and tighter validation procedures.
We are confident that our current system ensures that the player experience is carefully crafted to match and even exceed their expectations of what a trivia game can be - and we've got the results to show it! We challenge players to prove they've got the knowledge and tactical skill it takes to win, but take care to balance the spread of questions, delivering a totally compelling game experience that continues to grow and improve with the players themselves.
